YouTube has added a new feature designed to help creators make their videos more interactive for viewers. Last year, they introduced quiz “cards” for YouTube Shorts. Now, that same functionality has expanded to long-form videos, giving creators the ability to add in-video quiz questions directly inside YouTube Studio.
How to Add a Quiz to Your Video
You can add quizzes while uploading a new video or to an existing one.
If uploading a new video:
• In YouTube Studio, go through the normal upload flow
• On the “Video elements” step, click Add next to Quizzes
• Choose the timestamp where the quiz should appear
• Enter your question
• Add up to four answer options
• Select the correct answer (optional explanation available)
• Click Save

If adding to an existing video:
• Open the video in YouTube Studio
• Go to the “Details”
• Add your quiz at a specific timestamp
• Enter your question and answers
• Click Save
One important note: once a quiz is saved, it cannot be edited. If you need to change it, you’ll have to delete it and recreate it. Double-check before confirming.
This isn’t something that needs to be added to every video. But in the right format, it can be effective.
Podcasts & Interviews
If you host long-form podcasts, you can pause before a reveal and ask viewers to guess the answer. This keeps viewers invested through key moments.
Music Artists
Quiz your audience on major career moments, lyrics, album details, or tour milestones. It’s a simple way to reward core fans and increase engagement.
Education-Based Channels
This is where the feature is especially powerful. Quizzes can turn a standard lessons into an active learning experience.
For creators focused on retention and audience quality, this is worth testing. When implemented thoughtfully, it can strengthen watch time and give viewers another reason to stay through key moments.
