Last week, YouTube introduced three new ways creators can earn money and market themselves on the platform. These new monetization features are: Channel Memberships, Merchandise, and Premieres. Continue reading to find out more details on this major announcement from YouTube. The first big update from YouTube is a feature called Channel Memberships. Channel Memberships will enable viewers to pay a monthly fee of $4.99 to become a premium member of a specific creator’s channel, and YouTube's cut will be approximately 30%. This membership will offer the viewer unique badges, new emojis, exclusive posts in the Community tab, and access to things like member-only livestreams, extra videos, and individual shout-outs. This feature has been available to a select amount of creators, but will soon be expanding to channels with at least 100,000 subscribers.YouTube is also making it possible for creators to sell merchandise directly to their fans from their channel. This will be especially beneficial for musicians who already sell a lot of merch. YouTube has partnered with Teespring, allowing creators to choose from over 20 merchandise items to customize and sell on their channel. For now, this feature is only available to select U.S.-based channels with over 10,000 subscribers, but YouTube is planning on making this feature available to more creators soon.[embed]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Minu0lTlEOI[/embed]The last big announcement from YouTube is a new way for creators to upload videos and capitalize on live moments. This new feature is called Premieres. Premieres will create a public landing page that the creator can use to debut and promote a new video before it’s released officially on YouTube. Fans that go to the Premiere page will be the first to see the new video and will be able to live chat with the creator, as well as other viewers. Creators can also use Super Chat with Premieres and, for the first time, on regular YouTube videos as well. Channel Memberships perks that were previously only available on Live streams will also now be available on all YouTube videos. Premieres started to roll out to some creators last week and will become more broadly available soon.[embed]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=43o_pBtrIYw[/embed]These are all great new ways to earn money on YouTube, so reach out to us if you have any questions on best ways to implement these features into your video strategy.
