YouTube just announced the availability of handles on their platform and it’s very important to understand how this can impact your channel. We strongly recommend you claim your Handle as soon as you can. Choose the handle most of your audience will associate with your brand, even if it's not the same as your current YouTube Channel Name.
Unlike Channel Names (ex. YouTube.com/Quarterlab), Handles are unique, and no two can be the same. So, for example, when tagging Quarterlab in a comment, you can just write '@Quarterlab'. This system will allow users to find you more easily and without the possibility of someone appearing to be you, as they currently can with Channel Names.
Channel Names will continue to remain all around YouTube. However, Handles will now slowly roll out within search results, comments, channel pages, mentions, and more. This is an exciting change, and registering your Handle as soon as possible is extremely important. Handles can be the same as your Channel Name or different, depending on what best suits you and your audience.
