Important Update To Age-Restriction Policies On YouTube

Important Update To Age-Restriction Policies On YouTube

YouTube has recently expanded their age-restriction systems in an effort to correctly identify and restrict videos that may not be suitable for all ages. As a result, you may see more of your videos get flagged for age-restriction on YouTube. In this blog we will detail how this may affect your channel and what you can do if your videos get flagged incorrectly.

YouTube has upgraded their automated systems, as well as expanded their team of reviewers, in order to more effectively flag videos that aren’t suitable for all ages. If you see this restriction get placed on your videos, this means that your video will only be viewable by people who are at least 18 years old and signed into YouTube. YouTube is emphasizing that these new updates should not have an effect on your monetization, since videos that get flagged for age restriction should also already be flagged for limited monetization. But if you believe that your video has been flagged incorrectly, then you can appeal YouTube’s decision. Here is more info on how you can appeal those decisions: https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/1153367

YouTube will also now be redirecting viewers who click on age–restricted videos on most third–party sites to YouTube, where they will only be able to view the content if they are confirmed to be over 18 by signing in. YouTube is also rolling out age verification for users within the European Union (complying with recent regulations).

While YouTube states that these updates should not impact your monetization, we encourage all channels to keep a close eye on any changes to the classification of their videos over the coming days to ensure minimal disruption.
