New Monetization On Facebook & Instagram

New Monetization On Facebook & Instagram

Facebook recently introduced some new ways to monetize your video content on Facebook and Instagram. These include Fan Subscriptions, Stars, and new updates to in-stream ad breaks. There are also a few new updates to monetization on Instagram live and IGTV. Continue reading for the full details.

Facebook has expanded their fan monetization ecosystem by introducing two new features: Fan Subscriptions and Stars. Fan Subscriptions let your followers pay you directly on a monthly basis to show their support. This feature is currently available to any Page that has 10,000 followers or 250+ returning viewers, and one of the following in the last 60 days: 50,000 post engagements or 180,000 watch minutes. Stars are a new live stream monetization feature that lets fans buy Stars during a live stream and send them to you in the comments. Creators can do things like set Stars goals and add automated thank you messages to help encourage their viewers to use Stars more frequently during their live streams.

In addition to those fan monetization features, Facebook also recently updated their in-stream ad system. While ads were previously reserved for videos that were a minimum length of 3 minutes or longer, they are now also available to be seen in short-form videos that are anywhere from 60-180 seconds long. These shorter videos can now be monetized with image ads as well as post-roll ads. Live videos are also now eligible for mid-roll ads, and you can now monetize videos that were previously live. Finally, Facebook is testing the ability for people to start watching videos in the News Feed and continue watching in Watch after viewing a short ad. Their goal with this testing is to find a way to increase overall payouts for creators in Watch.

There are a few new monetization updates on Instagram as well. Instagram is currently testing badges in Instagram Live, which viewers can purchase to support creators. Purchased badges in Live will be highlighted in the comments and unlock additional features for the user, including placement on a creator's list of badge holders and access to a special heart. Instagram also introduced ads in IGTV, which are video ads built for mobile and up to 15 seconds long.

We’ll continue to keep you up to date with any new monetization developments on Facebook and Instagram, and in the meantime feel free to reach out with any questions.
