YouTube Red: What You Need To Know About The New Subscription Service

Today YouTube finally launched it’s highly anticipated subscription service, YouTube Red. It costs $9.99 per month ($12.99 if you initially sign up on an iOS device like an iPhone or iPad) and provides several benefits to subscribers that watch YouTube on their mobile devices. Quarterlab channels don’t need to take any action to be included in YouTube Red, but here is some quick info about what the service entails.

No Advertisements

The most obvious benefit to YouTube's Red service is the removal of all advertisements. For $9.99 users can have all banner ads, display ads, and video advertisements removed from YouTube entirely. For video creators that typically earn advertising revenue from their YouTube channels, you will now earn a percentage of the subscription fees that YouTube Red users pay monthly. YouTube does offer a free 30-day trial to the Red subscription so there may be a temporary dip in advertising income if a lot of users sign up quickly, but soon you will likely earn even more revenue from your viewers that are subscribed to the YouTube Red service.

Mobile: Save Videos For Offline Playback

For those viewers that watch YouTube on Android and iOS devices, you can now save videos on your phone to watch them when you're not online. This will be a huge benefit to channel owners since your fans can temporarily download videos that they may not have the time to check out when they first see them. YouTube will still account for these offline views so you will still be compensated, and this allows viewers to watch more video content even without internet connectivity.

Mobile: Play Videos In The Background

As a huge benefit to music-related channels, YouTube Red subscribers can now listen to YouTube videos on their mobile devices without having the YouTube app visible on their screens. One of the biggest deterrents to people that use YouTube on their smartphones is the fact that you can't do anything else with your phone while watching videos. Now your fans can let your videos play in the background as they use their phone to text, email, and check out other applications.

No Effect On The Regular Ad-Supported YouTube

For those people that are not subscribed to YouTube Red, YouTube.com (and all YouTube mobile apps) will work exactly as it has in the past. You will still see advertisements, and content creators will still be eligible to earn a percentage of that ad revenue. You can sign up for YouTube Red here and contact us here if you have any questions!
